Catharine (Kay) Margaret Dunne passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at JFK Medical Center in Edison, NJ with her daughter comforting her. She was 91 years old. Catharine was born in Pittsburgh, PA in 1926, the oldest daughter of the late Clarence and Margaret (Bryan) Dopler.
Kay’s early life was spent in Pittsburgh where she met and married her high school sweetheart Robert. In the early years of her marriage, Catharine followed Robert and set up households all over the country as they lived in Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Maryland and New Jersey. They ultimately settled in River Vale, NJ where Catharine raised their four children. As they grew older, Catharine worked for the Hillsdale, NJ Board of Education. Catharine was always involved with her children’s activities, her church and her bridge club. In retirement, she lived with Bob in both the Big Bass Lake Community in Gouldsboro, PA and in Barefoot Bay, FL. She moved to Edison, NJ after the death of her husband to be closer to family. Catharine was a masterful Scrabble player and one of her children’s greatest memories was trying to beat her at the game. She had a great sense of humor and could always be counted on for a laugh at a good joke. An avid bridge player, Catherine also played golf and shuffleboard, and with Bob, loved dancing with the “Smoothies” and travelling.
Catharine is survived by her daughter Laurel Dobalo, her sons Jeffrey and his wife Mary Jo, and Kevin and his wife Corinne; her grandchildren Katie (Augie) Wilkinson, Chelsea (Stephen) Thurston, Morgan Dunne, Daniel Dobalo, and Louis Dunne; and great grandchildren Emma, Melody and Jack Wilkinson. She is also survived by her brother Bryan Dopler, and his wife, Lilo and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, her daughter Kathe, her sister Jane Harmon, her son-in-law, Greg Dobalo, and her brother-in-law, Richard Harmon. The family would like to thank and acknowledge Melanie Mwanje for all the love, care and support she provided to our mother in her last years.
