Gul Sevil Goksel, 56, of Somerset, NJ died on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick., New Jersey after an extended illness.
Born in Hancock, MI on April 21st 1961 she graduated from Houghton High School in 1979 and Michigan Technological University in 1982 with a degree in Business Administration. Soon thereafter she moved to Boston, MA and continued her education and professional development with certificates in information technology, project management, six sigma and others. In the 1980s and 90s she worked for the City of Boston, Electronic Data Systems, First Boston Corporation and EMC/Millennia III.
In 2000, she formed her own company MaxRoute and worked as a contracted information technology project manager/project director and a Certified Project Management Professional in such companies as La Cruz Azul (Blue Cross/Blue Shield) in Puerto Rico, Ginnie Mae in Virginia and ultimately, Credit Suisse/First Boston in NY/NJ for nearly 14 years.
Gul was never afraid to pick the road less traveled. After her graduation when jobs were hard to find in the early 1980s, she took jobs as a bus driver, a fast food shift supervisor, a secretary, and an English as a Foreign Language tutor during the day and furthered her education at night. Despite many hardships, her grit prevailed and overcame them one at a time.
She was blessed to have been enriched with dear friends from all around the globe and from life’s experiences along the way. She was always looking for ways to make others happy, was extremely generous and warm-hearted towards her family and friends, had a quick wit and loved to laugh. She was well traveled and spoke three languages. She studied in Germany, visited Turkey, Egypt and the UK, lived in Michigan, Massachusetts, Texas, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, Virginia and ultimately New Jersey. She enjoyed baking, playing the piano, and taking care of her mother since 2002.
She is predeceased by her father, Prof. Dr. Adnan Goksel in 2002.
She is survived by her mother, Meral of Somerset; sisters, Nesrin Avci and her husband Selcuk of South Brunswick/Kendall Park; and Sibel Cedetas and her husband Burak of Istanbul,Turkey; nieces Leyla Bortnowski and her husband Michael of Pennsauken, Aylin Avci of Philadelphia; and nephews Cem and Kaan Cedetas of Istanbul, Turkey.
A Memorial Visitation will take place on Saturday, October 21, 2017 from 11 am -12:30 pm with Service at 12:30 pm at the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Avenue, Metuchen, NJ 08840.
