John T. Degnan, 79, died Feb. 3, 2017 at Haven Hospice at JFK Medical Center in Edison.

Born in New York City, John attended City College of New York and was a longtime Edison resident and parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral in Metuchen. He was a retired electrician with IBEW Local 164 and worked many years at Alco-Gravure Industries in Hoboken, where the Sunday magazines for major U.S. newspapers were printed. An avid fan of the NY Mets and NY Giants, he did electrical installations at the original Giants Stadium in the Meadowlands when it was built in in the early 1970s. John also worked at The New York Times' printing plant in Carlstadt before it closed in 1993.

Predeceased by his parents, James and Frances (Kolb) Degnan; and his sister, Mary (Sister Marietta, C.S.J.) Degnan; John is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years Diana (Dittmar) Degnan; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Joanne and Charles Lynch of Robbinsville, NJ; Susanne and Christopher Adam, of Bethlehem Township, NJ; Doreen Degnan, of Scottsdale, AZ; Patricia and George Borgstede, of South River, NJ; and Cathleen and Keith Radtke, of Ridgely, MD.

John is also survived by nine loving grandchildren: Charles Jr., James, Sean and Thomas Lynch; Casey and Kelly Adam; William and Brenna Borgstede; and Abbie Radtke; as well as a brother, James Degnan, of Winston-Salem, NC; three nieces and a nephew.

Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, Feb. 10 at the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave. (Route 27), Metuchen. Funeral service will begin at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 11 at the funeral home followed by a 9 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral, 32 Elm Ave., Metuchen. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, 899 East Lincoln Ave., Piscataway.

Memorial donations may be made in John's name to the Sisters of St. Joseph, (retired sisters fund), Sisters of St. Joseph, Mission Advancement Office, 1725 Brentwood Road, Brentwood, NY 11717.
