Jose Cabrera, 67, of Edison, passed away Friday, June 8, 2018, at St. Barnabas Hospital, Livingston.
Born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, he moved to New York when he was 5 years old. He resided in Brooklyn before moving to Manhattan where he met the love of his life Rose while attending Humanities High School, later in life he moved to Edison N.J. to be close to his 3 children and 8 grandchildren.
Jose worked for Young Adult Institute in New York, where he proudly contributed to helping children and adults with developmental disabilities thrive and live their best life.
In his free time he often traveled with his wife of 48 years Rose or cheered for the Mets, although his greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his parents, Andre and Arcadia Cabrera; as well as his brother Florencio Cabrera.
Surviving are his children Jose Cabrera and his wife Betsy of South Plainfield, Robert Cabrera and his wife Yin of South Plainfield and Jennifer Lopez and her husband Bernard of Metuchen. He is also survived by his siblings, Marcy Rosado of Manhattan, Maria Soto of Kissimmee and Andre Cabrera of Long Island. As well as his treasured 8 grandchildren, Noah Cabrera, Evan Cabrera, Leah Cabrera, Ava Cabrera, Zoe Cabrera, Anarose Lopez, Mya Cabrera and Holly Lopez.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, June 13, 2017, from 6-9pm at Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave. (Rt.27) Metuchen.
Jose will be laid to rest Thursday at 11:30am at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Inman Ave., Colonia.
