Kenneth Katen, 92, passed peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 6, 2018. He was predeceased by his loving father and mother, Kamel and Bassima Katen, and 10 brothers and sisters; Gladys Haddad, Edward Katen, Mary Katen, Lilly Leisen, Alfred Katen, Evelyn Short, Howard Katen, Kamel Katen, Victoria Madsen, and Victor Katen. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan, sister-in-laws, Pauline Katen and Jeannette Katen, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Katen graduated from Rutgers College of Pharmacy. He served in the Navy in WWII as a Pharmacist Mate. He received the Victory Medal and the American Theater Medal. After the war, he was employed for 55 years by Raymond Jackson and Son, Woodbridge, NJ, becoming the owner from 1980 to 1998. When Mr. Katen retired, he was honored by a Resolution of the NJ Senate for his service to the community. He was a Master Mason for 60 years and a member of The American Legion, Lafayette Lodge #27.
Kenneth Katen was a quiet man of dignity and grace. He was a faithful Christian and a longtime member of The First Presbyterian Church of Iselin. He was a devoted son, loving husband, brother, uncle, and friend. He was kind to everyone he met, and much loved and very well respected.
Visitation will be on Sunday, March 11, 2018 from 1pm - 5pm at the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, corner of Green Street and Cooper Avenue, Iselin NJ. A Memorial Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Iselin on Monday, March 12, 2018 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Iselin at 1295 Oak Tree Road, Iselin, NJ 08830 or the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
