Richard A. Latham, 81, of Edison, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at RWJ University Hospital, New Brunswick.
Born in New Brunswick, he was a lifelong resident of Edison.
Richard was a U.S Marine.
He became a firefighter for the Edison Fire Department in 1962. In 1980, he became Captain and from 1983-1985 he was acting chief. Richard became Chief in 1985, retiring in 1991.
He was a past trustee at St. Theresa of the Infant Jesus Church, Edison as well as a Eucharistic Minister and Lecturer. He was also a parishioner at St. Mary of Mount Virgin Church, New Brunswick. In 2011, he received the Regina Nostra Medal from the Diocese of Metuchen.
Richard enjoyed wood working and has made several pieces of furniture. He also enjoyed gardening.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Joan Latham (Ambrosio); his children Cynthia DiTacconi and her husband Anthony of Nazareth, PA; Brian Latham and his wife Samantha of Edison and Amy Dawid and her husband Thomas of Edison; a sister Joyce Bowne of Webster, NY; two sister-in-law's Jane Rohfling and Ruth Latham; three grandchildren Richard and Joseph DiTacconi and Dominic Latham; four great grandchildren Victoria, Jenna, Joseph and Avery; three step granddaughter's Diana DiTacconi, Maria DiTacconi and Toni Ann Rutnick and her husband Richard as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Richard will be missed by his family and many friends.
The Funeral will take place Monday at 9:30 am at Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave. (Rt.27) Metuchen (costello-runyon.com) followed by a 10:30 am Funeral Mass at St. Mary of Mt. Virgin Church, New Brunswick.
Interment is in St. Peters Cemetery, New Brunswick.
Visitation is Sunday 1-5pm.
