Thelma L. Menafra, 95, formerly of Elizabeth, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2017 at the Mary Anne Hale Pavilion of Haven Hospice at JFK Medical Center in Edison surrounded by her loving family.
Thelma was born in Elizabeth and was a lifelong resident before moving to Edison 18 years ago. She was a member of the Elizabeth Elks' Ladies Auxiliary and former owner of Gino's Bar & Restaurant and Snug Harbor both in Elizabeth. She loved gardening, crafting and cooking whenever she had the chance.
She is predeceased by her husband, Eugene 'Gino' (1986); her son, Thomas (1997); her 2 brothers, Arthur & Robert; her 2 sisters, Martha & Leona; her son-in-law, Vito; and her daughter-in-law, Anita.
She is survived by her 2 sons, John of South Carolina, and Robert and his wife Eliza of Virginia; her daughter, Claudette Cassano of Edison; 9 grandchildren, Rhonda Dorrbecker, John Menafra, Cliff Menafra, Colin Menafra, Vito Cassano Jr., Michele Gementgis, Mary Menafra, Gina Muccia, and Connie Nettles; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, February 18, 2017 from 9-11am at the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Avenue, Metuchen NJ 08840. A Memorial Service will follow at 11am at the funeral home.
