Obituary

Ann Marie Williams, of Edison, died Sat June 13, 2020.

Born in Jersey City, she grew up in Westfield, attended and graduated from Holy Trinity School.

After getting married she moved to Iselin where she raised her family.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Iselin, and after many years, moved to Edison and joined the Oaktree Presbyterian Church.
She worked as an RN, and after a 25 year nursing career she retired and went back to Rutgers and earned her MSW.

For the next 13 years she worked at the VA Hospital in East Orange and Lyons Hospital in Bernardsville, NJ, where she counseled Gulf War veterans, Viet Nam veterans, and their families in the PTSD Unit.

During this time Ann Marie continued her education and earned her LCSW.

After retiring from the VA Administration she worked as a sub contractor, for a civilian contractor of the US Military, providing counseling services to Active Duty military and their families on military bases around the globe.

She also volunteered her services to The Open Door in New Brunswick, Women Helping Women, Cop to Cop, and JFK Haven Hospice in Edison.
She enjoyed wonderful friendships with the American Irish Association of Central Jersey and her Oaktree Presbyterian Church family where she served on many committees.

She is predeceased by her husband, Herbert B. Jr (1988), and her parents John and Marie McGowan.

She is survived by her two sons, Herbert B III, of Bronx, NY, and Kevin B and his wife Laura, of Iselin, 5 grandchildren, Dillon, Zachary, Keegan, Kieran and Kiley; Jack McGowan and his wife Jane of Delaware, Judy Lanou of Arizona, Gerry McGowan of Georgia, and Joe Mc Gowan and his wife Sydney of NJ, 2 great grandsons and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be private and under the direction of the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, Iselin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Woodbridge Relay For Life event, team name "Iselin Fire Company and Friends".
