Anthony C. Simonelli, 71, of Metuchen passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at JFK Medical Center in Edison.
Born in Swedesboro, he has resided in Metuchen for 40 years.
Tony received a B.S. from Rutgers University and Master's degrees from both Montclair State and Kean Colleges. He was a member of Rutgers Football's first undefeated team (1961) and served as team captain in '62. He was a Teacher in The Edison Public School System for 35 years. Tony was a football, and track coach at JP Stevens High School. He retired in 1999 as Athletic Director. He was a member of The First Presbyterian Church of
Metuchen, where he had served as a Deacon and Elder.
He was predeceased by his parents Carmon and Philomena Simonelli and a brother Guy. Surviving are his wife La Verne (Mozgai); two daughters Janis Simonelli of Somerset and Jill Simonelli of Edison; a grandson Andrew Draina; and a brother Carmen Simonelli of Swedesboro.
He was a kind and generous man of great integrity who loved his family, his friends, and his athletes.
