Arthur Richard Harmon passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at Whispering Knoll Assisted Living in Edison.
He was born October 16, 1929 in Bonhamton and lived in Edison his entire life. He was a 1947 graduate of Metuchen High School.
Arthur served in the United States Army and fought in the Korean War.
He was appointed to the Edison Fire Department in 1959 and retired as Deputy Chief in 1985. After he retired he worked as a courier for the Highland Park School System.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed traveling and visited Alaska, Panama Canal, Hawaii and many tropical islands.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Metuchen for 50 years. Arthur was a charter and life member of the Edison First Aid Squad in Clara Barton.
He married Phyllis Jean Varga in 1954, she passed away in 2012. Arthur was also predeceased by two brothers George and Thomas.
Surviving are his children Tom (Eileen), David (Donna), Susan (George LaTorre), James (Karen), Diane (Deborah Kotula); grandchildren Justin (Jessie), Tara (John Jusinski), Adam, Ryan (Heidy), Joe, Chelsea, Cody, Rebecca, Andrew and Abbey, and great grandchildren Brody, Troy and Roman plus many nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Tuesday, November 20, 2018 from 4-8 PM at the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home 568 Middlesex Ave. (RT 27) Metuchen. Funeral service will be on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at 11 AM at the First Presbyterian Church of Metuchen 270 Woodbridge Ave. Metuchen.
