Benedicto Rodriguez, 90, of Edison, died on Monday, June 15, 2020, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
Born in Cayey, Puerto Rico, he has resided in Edison for over 50 years. Benedicto was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War serving from 1955-1957. He was a Sergeant and was honorably discharged with a medal of good conduct. He was employed by Morrison Steel Co. in New Brunswick as a Truck driver for 10 years and as a Chemical Operator for Amoco for 20 years. After retirement, he served as a crossing guard for the Edison Police Dept.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Florentina for whom was married for 62 years.
Surviving is six children Peter, Julie, Edna, Rose, Sam and Alicia; three grandchildren Cory, Ashley and Amber, and five great-grandchildren. Jessie, Emma, Ethan, Finn, and Kayden. But to everyone who met him, he was lovingly remembered as Grandpa, for he was gifted with a charming and kind demeanor. On birthdays he was never without his harmonica to accompany the birthday song.
On June 18th A private viewing and mass will be held at Costello-Runyon Funeral Home 568 Middlesex Ave. (RT 27) Metuchen, the funeral service will begin at 12 Noon; interment will follow at St. Peter Cemetery in New Brunswick.
