Catherine A. (nee Canning) Healey, 92, of Metuchen, died Sunday, Feb. 10, at home.
Born in Harrison, N.J., she lived in Harrison until moving to Metuchen 57 years ago.
Catherine, better known as Kay or Sis, loved to be with her family more than anything and enjoyed sitting in her yard on a lovely summer’s day. She was a diligent sender of birthday cards, had a voluminous Christmas card list, and was renowned for her special thank you notes. She was a terrific housekeeper, ironed everything, and made sure her property was mowed, raked, and shoveled.
She had a wonderful sense of humor that she exhibited right through her last day. She spent many happy days with her sister and her mother. Kay worked for Gulton Industries and retired many years ago from Sears.
She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Edward; her daughter, Cathy Renner; her mother, Elizabeth Canning; and her brother, Thomas Canning.
She is survived by her daughter, Marybeth, with whom she lived; her sons, Michael and his wife, Tricia, of Bradley Beach, and Bob and his wife, Debbie Nimetz, of No. Hatfield, MA; son-in-law Jim Renner of Somerset; her sister, Elizabeth Cahill of Edgewater; her sister-in-law, Rose Canning of Livingston; her grandchildren, Courtney, Kaitlin, Patrick and Elizabeth Healey and Shawn, Christine, and “her youngest grandchild” Jeffrey Renner; five great-grandchildren; her nieces, Karen Miles and Carolyn Pallitto and her nephews, Greg Cahill and Michael Canning and 21 Healeys; and the McLaughlins and Latkovichs who considered her their grandma. She will be greatly missed by her large extended family and many friends.
Visiting hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Avenue, (Route 27) Metuchen. The Funeral Service will be held Thursday, Feb. 14 at the Funeral Home at 10 a.m. followed by the interment at Resurrection Burial Park in Piscataway.
