Elenore Kowalchek, 90, formerly of Metuchen, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Seabrook Retirement Community in Tinton Falls.
Elenore was born in Perth Amboy to the late John and Mary Wataha, where she went to Perth Amboy High School. She later graduated from Rutgers University and attended the Pratt Institute of Fashion Design in NYC. After going to school, Elenore married the love of her life, John. She was a Home Economics Teacher for over 25 years at Avenel Jr. High School and Fords Middle School and was also the Head of the Sunday School Program at St. John’s Orthodox Church in Perth Amboy. After retiring, she became a Lifetime Member of the Middlesex County Retired Educators. The Aruban Government has named Elenore a “Goodwill Ambassador of Aruba” for trips to the island for over 25 years.
She is predeceased in death by her husband John Kowalchek (1996) and her brother John Wataha (2011).
She is survived by her daughter Karen Horn; her sister-in-laws Joan Wataha and Clara Dagostaro; her nephew, John Wataha; and her nieces, Pamela Wataha, Denise Peters, Valerie Dagostaro, and Nadine Familo.
The funeral will be held Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 9:30 am from the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave. Metuchen, followed by a 10:00am Divine Liturgy at St. John’s Orthodox Church, 145 Broad St. Perth Amboy, with the funeral service starting at 11 am. Interment will follow at St. John’s Orthodox Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday 4-8pm; Parastas will be at 7:30pm.
