Francis A. “Frank” Durkin, 77, of Edison died on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at Roosevelt Care Center in Edison after a long illness.
He was born and raised in the close knit community of the Vailsburg Section of Newark and resided in Irvington before moving to Edison in 1982.
Frank was a Social Worker with the Essex County Welfare Board for 41 years, before retiring in 2004. He was a member of Edison Elks Lodge 2487, a communicant of Guardian Angels RC Church in Edison and was named Essex County Irishman of the Year in 2000.
Frank was predeceased by his siblings Regina, James and Raymond Durkin.
Surviving are the love of his life for 54 years Barbara (nee Stevens); his children Judy Canfield and her husband Paul, Frank A. Durkin and his wife Emilia, Mary Tutalo and her husband Mike; seven grandsons Justin, Jared, Frank, Michael, Anthony, James and Dean. He was surrounded in life by his many great Vailsburg and Edison friends and family.
Visitation is Sunday from 4-8 PM, March 31, 2019 at the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home 568 Middlesex Ave. (RT 27) Metuchen.
Services will take place on Monday, April 1, 2019 at 9:15 AM from the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home 568 Middlesex Ave. (RT 27) Metuchen; followed by a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Guardian Angels RC Church in Edison, cremation will be private.
