Gloria O’Connell, 93, of Metuchen, died on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Parker of Monroe.
Born in Jersey City, she moved to Edison in 1968, and later moved to Metuchen. Gloria was a former parishioner at St. Helena’s Church in Edison and current parishioner at St. Francis Cathedral. Gloria spent her time volunteering at the Edison Senior Center, for ten years, she choreographed and taught line dance for her 100 students. She was a talented craftsperson, creating one of a kind furniture, clothing and dolls, and crocheted garments, afgans, art pieces and ornaments. She was a painter and a celebrated baker. She took pride in fixing anything that needed repair including the family’s car. She personally remodeling her kitchen. Gloria always made the most of every moment, and lived life to the fullest. She encouraged her children to get a good education and follow their dreams.
She is predeceased by her husband Edward (1992); son, Edward W. (2001); two sisters, Mildred Wadagnolo and Dorothea Schurley; a brother, Henry Hahn; a daughter-in-law, Diana O’Connell; and a grandson-in-law, Derrick Pearson.
She is survived by her son, Dennis O’Connell and his wife Darlene of Dunellen; three daughters, Karen O’Connell and her husband Patrick McDonnell of Princeton, Donna O’Connell and her husband Ed Rusbarsky of Skillman, and Gloria O’Connell and her husband Bob of Metuchen; seven grandchildren, Edward G. O’Connell and his wife Tammy, Erin Palmer and her husband Kevin, Shawn O’Connell and his wife Stacey, Shannon Battiste and her husband Robert, Kevin O’Connell, Robert O’Connell, and Margaret O’Connell; and seven great-grandchildren Edward J. O’Connell, Kayla O’Connell, Cassandra Palmer, Robert Battiste, Haley O’Connell, Joseph O’Connell, and Skye Battiste.
Visitation will be Thursday 6-9pm at the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave. Metuchen 08840.
The funeral services will take place on Friday, May 31st, 2019 at 9:45 AM from the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, followed by a 10:15 AM Funeral Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral; internment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.
