Helen M Farrell O'Malley, age 93 of Metuchen, died peacefully on Friday morning, August 23rd, at JFK Hospice Center.
Born February 6, 1926 in Queens, NY to Bernard J Farrell and Helen M Kennedy Farrell, Helen graduated in 1944 from Cathedral High School in NYC. She then worked for the federal government as a secretary at the Customs House in lower Manhattan where she met her husband to be. She married James J O'Malley on Oct 25, 1947. After living for 2 years in the Bronx, they moved to Staten Island for 10 years and then to Metuchen, NJ in 1960. Later in life, Helen worked as a volunteer at Roosevelt Hospital in Edison. She spent the last 4 years living at St. Joseph’s Senior Home in Woodbridge.
Helen was the beloved mother of five children, grandmother of five grandchildren, and great grandmother of six great grandchildren. As a member of St Francis Cathedral Parish, she was a daily communicant and devoted participant in Eucharistic Adoration and the Altar Rosary Society.
Helen is survived by her children, James and Nancy O'Malley of Whitehouse Station, NJ, Robert O'Malley and Doris Wait of Lancaster, PA, Thomas and Lynn O'Malley of Metuchen, NJ, Eileen O'Malley of Sanford, Fl, and Gerry O'Malley of Franklin Park, NJ.
Her grandchildren are Thomas and Anne Marie O'Malley, Kate and Jon Soles, Joseph and Rachel O'Malley, Michael O'Malley,and James O'Malley. Also, her great grandchildren are Kayla O'Malley, Joey O'Malley, Chloe O'Malley, Bennett Soles, Harrison Soles, and Declan O'Malley. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, James J. O'Malley, her parents Bernard J. and Helen M. Farrell, her five brothers, Bernard J. Farrell, John J. Farrell, Thomas J. Farrell, Frank P. Farrell, and Robert L. Farrell, and sister Margaret T. McKeon.
Visitation is Sunday, August 25, 2019 from 2-6 PM and Monday, August 26, 2019 from 9-9:45 AM at Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave. Metuchen 08840. The funeral will take place Monday, August 26, 2019 beginning at 9:45am from the Funeral Home followed by a 10:15am Funeral Mass at St. Francis Cathedral, Metuchen. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Burial Park, Piscataway.
