Isabel Modla, 86, of Jupiter, FL, formerly of Metuchen, passed away Wednesday at Capitol Health System, Fuld Campus, Trenton.
Born as the eldest of four children in Fair Haven, VT, she grew up there, attended Mt. Sinai School of Nursing in NYC where she became a Registered Nurse in 1944.
She married Edward and moved to Metuchen, where she resided for 36 years before moving to Jupiter, FL in 1985.
She was a former parishioner of St. Francis Cathedral, Metuchen, NJ and a parishioner of St. Patrick Church, Palm Beach Gardens, FL. She was a past member of the League of Women Voters in Metuchen.
Mrs. Modla has volunteered for the American Cancer Society, Reach to Recovery in NJ and FL for 30 years and Jupiter Hospital for 18 years.
She walked for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Foundation, West Palm Beach, FL, where she was recognized as the oldest living cancer survivor at that race in January 2007.
She is predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Edward A. Modla, who passed away on January 15, 2008. She is also predeceased by her brother Joseph Carbotti and her sister Joan Pozybutt.
Surviving are her children Andrew Modla and his wife Ginger of Bluebell, PA, Christopher Modla and his wife Lorraine of Jessup, MD, Margaret Shupper and her fiancé Ray Spatola of Hamilton, NJ, Elizabeth Hammond and her husband Thomas of Lighthouse Point, FL, John Modla and his wife Grace of Holmdel, NJ and Jean Modla and her fiancé Scott Hartley of Jackson, NJ; her sister Lena Kenner of Albany, NY; nine grandchildren Michele, Janine, Peter, Christopher, Kathryn, Diana, Jennifer, Sagan and Theo; four great grandchildren Heather and her sister Hayley, and Hannah and her brother John.
Funeral services will take place Saturday 9:15am at Costello-Runyon Funeral Home 568 Middlesex Ave (RT27) Metuchen, NJ followed by a 9:45am Funeral Mass at St. Francis Cathedral, Metuchen, NJ
Interment is at Hillside Cemetery, Metuchen, NJ
Visitation is Friday 7-9.
