James D. Montanye, Sr., 70, of Toms River, formerly of Edison, died on Friday, July 10, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born in New Brunswick he had been an Edison resident for over 46 years. He had also lived in Lebanon for 10 years before moving to Toms River in 2013. He started his career as a volunteer for the Edison Fire Department as a Fire Fighter in 1970. He became an official employee as of April 28, 1971 retiring after 37 years in 2008. He served as the Union president for many years & retired as a battalion chief. He loved rolling the dice in AC and was a proud member of Costco. He never missed a spontaneous food adventure!
He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Carolyn Tarvin Montanye (d.1992); parents, James & Katherine (neeDeLuca & Seroka).
He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Kathleen; 4 children, James Jr. of Edison, Kristin Januseski & husband Daniel of Lumberton, Carrie Moran & husband Joseph of Cranford, & Jennie Nelson & husband Jeff of Cranford; 4 step-daughters, Jessica Swartz of Lavallette, Stephanie Crimmins & husband Christian of Bridgewater, Laura Endrizzi of Hillsborough, & Michelle Marino & husband Joe of Deptford; 11 grandchildren, Jacen, Myles, Angelina, Charles, Max, Nicholas, Vanessa, Kyle, Owen, Gabriella, Amelia; one brother, Robert & wife Eileen of Edison; & niece & nephew, Robert & wife Jenna of Edison & Lisa Misailov & husband Vladimir of Minnesota.
A Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at 10 am at the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave (Rt.27), Metuchen, followed by interment at Van Liew Cemetery in North Brunswick.
Visitation will be on Monday from 4-8 pm, where there is adequate room for safe social distancing.
