Joanne H. Koob, 85, died on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at the Haven Hospice Pavilion at JFK Hospital in Edison.
Joanne was born in Scranton, PA to the late Carl and Helen (Lavelle) Herzog. She had lived in Perth Amboy before raising her family in Sayreville. She later moved to Metuchen in 1980. Joanne had worked at Boyt Drugs for many years. She also worked as a Manager for Krauszer’s and was a Crossing Guard in Metuchen. She is a Communicant and Eucharistic Minister of St. Francis Cathedral in Metuchen and also was a Religious Education Teacher. Joanne loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, especially when they would go on vacations and trips to Atlantic City. She also enjoyed reading, shopping, and going for breakfast every Tuesday at IHOP with her best friend, Dorothy.
Joanne is predeceased by her husband, Robert (2011) and her son, Joseph.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth J. Murafsky and his wife Penny of Metuchen; 4 daughters, Denise Ihnat and her husband Michael of Edison; Mary Getty and her husband Patrick of Metuchen; Michelle Moran and her husband Robert of Scotch Plains, and Karen Brown and her husband David of Edison; 11 grandchildren, Marybeth, Kenny, Robert, Patrick Jr, Joseph, Kathryn, Robert, Meghan, Kaitlynn, Matthew, and Ryan; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Marie Halbert of Woodbridge and Kathy Dubroff of Whiting; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held on Friday, February 8, 2019 at 9:45am from the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Avenue, Metuchen followed by a 10:15am Funeral Mass at St. Francis Cathedral, Metuchen. Entombment will be in Resurrection Burial Park, Piscataway. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-8pm.
