Kenneth Michael Smithers, “Kenny”, age 55, passed away suddenly on December 22, 2018, in Buffalo, NY where he resided for the past 10
Kenny graduated in 1981 from John P. Stevens High School, where he helped build the original monument on their front lawn. He was a volunteer fireman at Raritan Engine Company #1 in Edison for 6 years before moving to his first love, the Jersey shore, where he was a carpenter and builder by trade. Kenny’s interests and passions were hunting, fishing, playing golf, playing baseball for Edison Boys baseball up until senior league, downhill racing and skiing, jamming on his guitar with family and friends. His love for carpentry and
architectural drawing come very natural for him and we always said he was “born with a hammer in his hand”.Kenny will always be remembered for his beautiful smile that lit up the
room when he entered and his piercing blue eyes. He had a sense of humor that always left you laughing and he loved to tease and play jokes on everyone. His dedication to animals and his love for his precious fur babies, Abby, Maddie and Molly will always be treasured.
Kenny is predeceased by his father, Richard D. Smithers, his maternal grandparents, Kenneth (PopPop) and Virginia (MomMom) Henderson of Edison and his paternal grandparents, Clarence and Priscilla Smithers of New Brunswick. He is survived by his beloved mother, Sharon (Henderson) Smithers of Edison, his “little” sister Kimberly (Kimmie) and her
husband Richard Campbell, nieces Kaitlin and Arianna and nephews Kevin and Kristopher, all of Edison.
Memorial Services will take place on Sunday, January 6, 2019 from 2-4pm at Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 569 Middlesex Ave (Rt. 27) Metuchen.
