Michael “Popeye” Werdann, Sr, of Metuchen, entered eternal rest on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at the JFK Medical Center in Edison.
Born in Perth Amboy, he had been a lifelong resident of Iselin until settling in Metuchen in 1993. He worked as a diesel mechanic at Allstate Power Vac Inc in Rahway before retiring in 2014. He was a member of the Walnut Brook Protective Association Hunting Club in Flemington and the Liberty H.O.G. (Harley Owners Group) Chapter & Hannum’s Harley Davidson of Rahway. He enjoyed bowling in leagues at the Woodbridge Bowling Center. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed riding his Harley. He was known by many as “Popeye” and MacGyver” and was known to be able to fix anything. He adored his grandsons and spending time with his family and friends was most important to him.
He is predeceased by his Father Alfred, Sr. and Mother Dorothy Werdann; two siblings, James Werdann and Joan Barth.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 4o years, Donna Marie (nee Rappa); two children, Frances Wood & her husband Adam of Iselin and Michael Werdann Jr. and his wife Rachel of Groton, CT; 3 grandsons, Elijah & Noah Wood and Michael Werdann, III; two brothers, Alfred, Jr. and wife Terri, Richard and wife Mary all of Ormond Beach, FL; many nieces & nephews and close friends he called family.
A visitation will take place on Saturday, December 28th from 2:00-5:30 pm with a funeral service at 5:30pm at the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 1225 Green St. & Cooper Ave., Iselin. Cremation will be private.
