Nadia R. Guerra-Ruiz, 50, of Edison, passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Nadia was born in Cartagena, Colombia, and moved to the US where she settled in North Plainfield with her family at the age of three. She is an alumna of both Mount Saint Mary Academy and Rutgers University. She later lived in South Plainfield and moved to Edison to raise her family with her husband, Edgar Bernardo. She attended St. Francis Cathedral in Metuchen and Our Lady of Mount Carmel RC Church in New Brunswick, where she served as a catechist. Nadia was extremely involved at St. Francis Cathedral School, where her children attended. She was an active member of the HSA (where she was a former Co-President), Girl Scout Troop Leader, Class Parent, and Spanish Teacher. She also taught Spanish at St. Helena’s School in Edison. Nadia worked as a Paralegal and would use her skills to help many different families, especially in the Latin Community. She was a patient, faithful, spiritual woman, as well as a loving and compassionate wife, mother, sister, daughter, and friend.
She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Edgar Bernardo Ruiz De La Torre; her daughter, Andrea; her son Alejandro; her 2 sisters, Dennis Guerra of North Plainfield & Enith Guerra of Cartagena, Colombia; her 2 brothers, Victor Guerra of South Plainfield & Richard Guerra and his wife Inez of Hershey, PA; her mother, Ruby (Montes) of South Plainfield; her grandmother, Lucha of South Plainfield; and her Mother-in-Law, Gloria De La Torre of Bogotà, Colombia. Nadia is predeceased by her Father, Victor Guerra (2014).
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at 9:45am from the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Avenue, Metuchen followed by a 10:15am Funeral Mass at St. Francis Cathedral, Metuchen. Committals will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, East Brunswick. Visitation will be on Monday from 4-8pm.
