Norman E. Robberstad, 79, of Iselin died on Friday, December 13, 2019 at his home with his wife by his side.
Norman was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY to the late Tryve and Esther Arp Robberstad. He has resided in Iselin for the past 16 years.
Norman worked as a professional doorman for 13 years at the location of 44 West 77th Street in New York City, retiring in 2002. Before that he worked for 7 Santini Brothers Moving & Storage in Maspeth, Queens.
Norman is a member of the Evangel Church on Terrill Road in Scotch Plains. He is a member of the Union 32 BJ and the Teamsters Local 814. Norman was an avid reader of the Bible and would lead bible studies in church and home. He also enjoyed playing chess and playing billiards; he was a member of the Woodbridge Community Center Billiards Club.
He also loved movies especially old western movies. He enjoyed music especially early rock and roll and music of the 40’s & 50’s. He often was the “DJ” for the pool parties at the community where he resided.
Norman was known for his unique sense of humor everywhere he went. Relying on his faith and using his sense of humor got him through every challenge he faced.
In fact, in the early years he was the bartender at all family functions. His bartending skills remain a legend! In the recent years when he lost his legs to amputation, he would warn you to not step on his toes!
Norman is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia K. Cunningham Robberstad, his daughter, Diana Rosario and her husband Javier “Jay” Rosario; he has a granddaughter, Kerrie Lynn Robberstad and her spouse Paris Robberstad. He also is survived by his granddaughter and her spouses dog, Edgar who he thought looked like the puppet lamb chop.
He has three brothers, Donald Robberstad of L.I., NY, Ralph Robberstad of Washington State and Paul Robberstad of Brooklyn, NY (deceased) 2 sisters, Dorraine Cinelli of Saugerties, NY; sister Martha of Washington State (deceased)
