Nunzio Reina, 89, of Edison, NJ passed away on March 25, 2019 at JFK Medical Center in Edison, NJ.
Nunzio was born and lived in Brooklyn, NY before moving to Edison, NJ in the early 1960s. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and was a huge baseball fan, having been a star player in several independent leagues in New York City in the 1940s and 50s. A former U.S. Army veteran who served in the Korean War, he retired after working for nearly 20 years at the Empire Technical School of New Jersey as Faculty Director and Dean of Students. Previously, he held roles at Warner Lambert Corp., American Standard, and U.S. Steel Corp.
Nunzio is survived by his wife, Joann Mirabile Vono Reina, his daughters Madalyn Reina and Catherine Schutta, both of Jackson, NJ, Linda Kilburg and her husband Daniel of Edison, NJ, Diane Spano and her husband Daniel of Hillsborough, NJ, and MaryAnn Sciannamea and her husband Michael of Monmouth Junction, NJ. Also surviving are his brothers John Reina of Staten Island, NY, Dominick Reina of New Jersey, and sister Vincenza Palmieri of Pennsylvania. He is also survived by his cherished granddaughters Jacqueline and Catherine Spano, both of Hillsborough, NJ, and Julianna Sciannamea of Monmouth Junction, NJ. He is predeceased by his wife and mother of his children, Annette Reina, as well as his brother Joseph Reina Jr., and son-in-law Gregory Schutta.
A brief gathering will take place on Friday, March 29, 2019 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Avenue, Metuchen, NJ, followed by a 11:00 Mass at St. Matthew's the Apostle Catholic Church, 81 Seymour Avenue, Edison, NJ. A Christian Burial will take place at Resurrection Burial Park, Hoes Lane, Piscataway, NJ.
