P. Michael Shaffery, 65, died on Friday, February 21, 2020 at his home with his family by his side.
Michael was born in Tacoma, Washington to Marguerite Helmsetter and the late Cornelius Shaffery. Michael attended Belmont Abby College in North Carolina where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree. He also was a member of their Phi Beta Kappa Fraternity.
Michael has resided in Edison for the past 57 years. He worked as the Director of the Edison Sheltered Workshop, which provides vocational rehabilitation services to people with disabilities who are residents of Middlesex County.
Michael was a member of the Edison Knights of Columbus and also the Men’s Club where they made homemade sausage. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, grilling outdoors and relaxing on the beach.
Michael is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ronda K. (Jones) Shaffery; his son, Gregory and his wife Gail of Metuchen; his daughter, Katlyn of Edison; his 3 brothers, Mark and his wife Cynthia of Brick; Matthew and his wife Diane of East Brunswick; his sister, Anne Caruso and her late husband Carmine of Bayville, and his sister-in-law Theresa Licciardi (Jones) and her late husband Joseph Licciardi. Michael is also survived by his nieces: Michael Shaffery and his wife Danielle Shaffery, Matthew Shaffery and his wife Samantha Shaffery, Nicole Shaffery, and Melissa Shaffery, Danielle Tomazewski and her husband Joseph Tomazewski, Jennifer Gallagher and her husband Eli Gallagher, and Allexis Licciardi.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 25th from 3-7 pm in the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Avenue (Rt. 27) Metuchen. There will be a Funeral Service at 5:30 pm. All services will end at the funeral home. Cremation will be private.
