Patrick S. Rubino, 79, of Menlo Park Terrace, passed away Friday at the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home of Menlo Park.
Born in Newark, he resided in Menlo Park Terrace for 23 years, Scotch Plains for 10 years and Bath, PA before moving back to Menlo Park Terrace three years ago.
He served in the Navy during WII on an aircraft carrier.
Mr. Rubino drove a truck for Pride Trucking for many years before starting Menlo Movers, INC, who were agents for Wheaton Van Lines based out of Indianapolis, Indiana, where he won the prestigious Agent of the Year award. Menlo Movers were also agents for Allied Van Lines and North American Van Lines, where many of his professional drivers won many driving awards.
Pat eventually retired, selling Menlo Movers and moving to Bath, PA to a large 23 acre estate with a bridge over a babbling brook, concentrating on raising and showing dogs with his wife Joanne and daughter Mary Jo. They had won numerous blue ribbons in shows of best breed and best of show, which had attracted the very best of dog handler's in the country to show their dogs
He was a former parishioner of St. Cecelia's Church, Iselin, St. Francis Cathedral, Metuchen and Sacred Heart Church in Bath, PA. He was a member of the Knight's of Columbus, Iselin, American Legion Post 471, Iselin, coach and manager of Menlo Park Terrace Little League and on the Board of Warehouseman's Association. He also enjoyed racing stock cars in Wall Twp, NJ.
He is predeceased by his wife Joanne Rubino(d.2004), two brothers James and August Rubino and two sisters Florence Rubino and Rose Di'Andrea.
Surviving are his two children Thomas J. Rubino of Piscataway, NJ and Mary Jo Rubino of Bathe, PA, one brother Carmine Rubino of CA, four grandchildren Thomas Ryan Rubino, Carly Rubino, Annemarie Huber and Michele Rubino, his nephew Anthony Rubino and his wife Marta and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday 9:45am at Costello-Runyon Funeral Home 568 Middlesex Ave (RT27) (costello-runyon.com) Metuchen followed by a 10:15am funeral liturgy at St. Francis Cathedral, Metuchen. Entombment is at Cloverleaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge. Visitation is Thursday 6-9pm.
