Ruth J. (Inabinet) Egeland, 97, of Metuchen, NJ, died Friday, January 12, at Brighton Gardens of Edison Alzheimer’s & Memory Care Center.
Born in St. Matthews, SC, she lived in Metuchen for over 55 years at the same residence.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Erik, who passed away in 2008. They were married in 1943 and celebrated over 65 wonderful years together. Her half sister Patsy, her four brothers, William, Rudy, Curtis and Jesse are all waiting in Heaven to greet her.
She is survived by her daughter Lorraine DeAndrea of Metuchen and son Ken Egeland and wife Leslie Prinz of Bonita Springs, FL. Her legacy also includes two granddaughters, Crissi (DeAndrea) Large (mother of Ruth’s great grandchildren Danielle & Erik), Maria DeAndrea, grandson Vincent DeAndrea III and his wife Jennifer (mother of great grandchildren Wyatt & Lucas) of Orlando, FL.
Ruth, worked at a friend’s Tea House for a number of years, enrolled in bookkeeping classes and then moved to Staten Island in the early 1940’s where she met Erik, the love of her life and the rest is history, always with love. She volunteered thousands of hours at JFK hospital in Edison for many years and earned the gratitude of many.
Visitation will be at noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 16, followed by funeral services at 1 p.m. at the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave. (Rt. 27), Metuchen, NJ. For further information, please go to www.costello-runyon.com
