Lazelle was born in Hartselle, Alabama and grew up on a small family farm. As a 1954 graduate of Alabama College, she was the first in her family to attain a college degree. Education was very important to Lazelle who taught at Dothan High School in Alabama, was a very active member of the Parent Teacher Association in Edison, NJ, including several terms as President of the Organization. Lazelle worked at Middlesex County College for many years until retirement.
Lazelle traveled extensively with Richard, logging over 165,000 miles by sea, air and land. Lazelle visited many places in the U.S. and around the globe including Alaska, the Panama Canal, Rome, Venice, St. Petersburg, Paris, Berlin, London, Dublin, Edinburgh, Estonia, Helsinki, Oslo, Iceland and Greenland.
Lazelle adored her grandchildren and they brought her tremendous joy.
Lazelle’s other passion was gardening, perhaps owing to her childhood years on her family’s farm. Until the last years of her life, she grew tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots and other vegetables that were the envy of the neighborhood.
She is survived and missed by her beloved husband, Richard, son James, daughter-in law, Christine, grandchildren, Brenna, Keelin and Mairead. She was preceded in death by her sister, Helen, and brothers Olan, Tolan and A.M.
